Common Adult, noun: one who is mediocre at adulting, and feels no shame about it.

You might have a great job but your finances are a wreck. You could be financially secure but your house is disgusting. You might be a neat freak but are paralyzed by your list of menial “adult” tasks. Or you could be a hot mess all around.

Why is adulting so hard for those of us dubbed millennials? Is it because we have an unrealistic expectation of what “adult” even means? Maybe we don’t need to have three kids, make our own jam, maintain a banging body, and cook a gourmet meal every night, all while kicking ass at our full-time jobs.

Let’s just take care of our bodies, keep our homes clean(ish), practice contentment, and make sure our finances are in order so we don’t have to work until we die. Maybe we don’t have to be extraordinary at adulting. Maybe it’s ok to be a common adult.
